Dr Alpa Parmar is Departmental Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Oxford.
She works on understanding
the everyday consequences of border control and where crime and immigration
cross over. In particular her work considers the ways that visible minority
ethnic groups are affected by migration control and the impacts this can have
at the community level. Her research asks how notions of criminality and
migrant status coalesce in contemporary times and through the criminal justice
system, and how migration acts as a way to understand the working of societies
more broadly.
She co- supervises the PhD project "Vertical interventions? The local politics of crimmigration control in intra-Schengen borderlands."
